Salil (pronounced suh-lil), is an experienced camera assistant and 3ality-Technica certified 3D rig technician who has recently moved to the Los Angeles area from Chicago. He's a versatile camera assistant, having served on all kinds of projects from 3D feature films to commercials to documentaries. Salil got his start in entertainment industry as an assistant editor & post-production consultant in 2005 but quickly moved into working in the camera department full time and has been working freelance since. Some of his notable credits in the camera department include work for Red Bull, Chevrolet, Toyota, Discovery Channel and Brookfield Zoo. More recently he wrapped on the feature film Lost on Purpose starring Jane Kaczmarek from Malcolm in the Middle. Salil regularly pulls focus on a variety of formats and rigs-from the Canon 5D's razor thin depth field while shooting wide open to 3D rigs using Red One bodies and C-motion remote lens control systems. He also owns an extensive AC kit along with a stock of expendables ready for your film, digital cinema and HD productions of all sizes. Besides his on set experience, Salil has also repaired and assisted in engineering production equipment with his basic electrical knowledge. This includ es de-clicking a set of Nikon prime lenses (which he owns). He's also worked with a third-party in developing a custom battery plate for the Canon 7D which allows running a Marshall monitor and an HDMI to component converter off a single lightweight 7.2v Panasonic battery pack. Handheld HDSLR rigs are notorious for being extremly front heavy because of all the bracketry required to make them function like a motion picture camera. Not only does Salil's custom battery plate allow running multiple HD monitors simultaneously, but it also allows the user to move the weight of the monitor's battery pack to the back of the rig, making the operator or AC's LCD monitor considerably lighter. The plate also delivers power to 5v USB devices with the help of some added diodes and can power most 7.2v ultra compact cameras such as the Canon 5D/7D, but using a battery that lasts nearly three times as long as the stock Canon batteries (but not an overwhelmingly large V or A-B mount brick battery). Salil is also budding cinematographer & camera operator-he has shot all kinds of projects including commercials, short films, music videos, industrials, etc. He owns a mobile production package, including a full cinema style HDSLR camera package, small Arri grip/lighting package and an audio kit.
